In December the light comes late and leaves early, and the house slows down to match it. Breakfast stretches to eleven. The stove never quite goes out.
We spent a week here between guests last winter, just to remember why we love the dark months. This is what it looked like.
— A swim at the top of the tide, then straight into the sauna
— A long walk to the harbour while there was still light
— Soup, bread and a game of cards by the fire

The long room on a short December afternoon.
The beach is empty, the sky does something different every hour and the sea turns silver at three. If you want the place to yourselves, this is the time to come.
